Junior Rifle Team
In shooting sports, no one has to sit on the sidelines; anyone can participate. Shooting is a sport that creates an equal playing field. Physical ability and size are no match for mental toughness and discipline in this co-ed skill sport.
As part of its mission, Stemmers Run develops young shooters into expert marksmen who respect and appreciate the sport of shooting.
The Junior team is a gun safety education and marksmanship program that encompasses the basic elements of safety, education, enjoyment, and competition.
The Stemmers Run Junior Rifle Team is open to youth ten years of age up to 21 years.
All participants start with rifle safety and fundamentals. Youth learn the proper way to handle, load, aim, and fire a rifle. There has never been a rifle-related injury in our junior shooting sports program history.
The program teaches new shooters the basics of rifle shooting and how to shoot in the standard positions used in various shooting sports: prone, kneeling, and standing. New shooters are expected to be proficient at the least difficult positions before moving on to more challenging positions.
Weekly practices are held using high-quality equipment with NRA-trained coaches. During the Spring, Summer, and early Fall, youth shooters train outdoors with .22 caliber smallbore rifles. Air Rifle training is year-round at the Memorial Hall indoor air rifle range.
Once out of the beginner stage, juniors learn more advanced techniques to improve their shooting skills and scores, allowing them to compete in smallbore and air rifle matches. The Stemmers Run Junior Rifle Team participates in Civilian Marksmanship Program matches, Junior ROTC CMP Matches, US Shooting Junior Olympics, and local and regional youth competitions.
We aim for these young people to build upon their positive experiences and carry on the traditions and values throughout their adult lives. And as adults, we hope they share their love of this sport with their friends and families.
Let's Get Started!
Stemmers Run Rifle and Pistol Club lends participants gear, rifles, and other necessary equipment. The club also provides ammunition needed for practices and competitions. The only cost to a participant's family is that a guardian must register with the club.
Note: When a junior rifle team member begins to excel at the sport, they may want to invest in their own gear, rifles, and equipment.
